This is a chart of the 138 colors named in the HTML 4.0 spec, arranged alphabetically by color name. (Don’t blame me for the weird color names; this is what happens when a committee gets to decide things.) If you’d prefer to view the colors by families (all the blues, then all the greens, etc.), click here instead. If you’d prefer to view the color samples against a gray framework, click here. White framework? Click here. Anywhere you can use a hex triplet to specify an RGB color value, you can instead use one of these color names. Using a color name is exactly equivalent to using the corresponding hex triplet — nothing is gained or lost either way, provided the user is looking at your page(s) with an up-to-date browser. Older browsers may not interpret the color names correctly — if you suspect that this might be a problem, stick with hex triplets. Do not use a pound sign (#) when specifying one of these color names. This list is not equivalent to the 216 colors considered “web-safe.” If you’d like to see these 216 colors, click here.
