HTML Named Colors
“Family” Order

[You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.]

This is a chart of the 138 colors named in the HTML 4.0 spec, arranged by color “family.”
(Don’t blame me for the weird color names; this is what happens when a committee gets to decide things.)

If you’d prefer to view the colors alphabetically by color names,

If you’d prefer to view the color samples against a gray background, click here.

Anywhere you can use a hex triplet to specify an RGB color value,
you can instead use one of these color names.

Using a color name is exactly equivalent to using the corresponding hex triplet —
nothing is gained or lost either way, provided the user is looking at your page(s) with an up-to-date browser. Older browsers may not interpret the color names correctly —
if you suspect that this might be a problem, stick with hex triplets.

Do not use a pound sign (#) when specifying one of these color names.

This list is not equivalent to the 216 colors considered to be “web-safe.”
